Marlys has over twenty-five years’ experience in case management and is the founder and president of SCM Associates, Inc. In 1992, she was the first recipient of the Case Management Society of America’s Case Manager of the Year award. She has served CMSA in multiple roles including local and national president. Marlys has provided consulting services to many private and public health insurers. She is a published author and a frequent lecturer who has represented the field of case management on television and in video. Marlys is an active Rotarian, volunteering in the local community.

Carla is a Certified Case Manager with over 27 years of clinical and supervision/management experience in nursing practice including critical care nursing, utilization management, quality assurance, home health care, and case management. Her case management focus has been high risk diseases and chronic pain. She joined the SCM Associates case management team in 2010. When she is not working she enjoys reading, crafts, creative arts, and entertaining her cat.
Joy joined SCM in 2011. She is a Certified Case Manager with over 10 years experience in general nursing, case management, utilization review and risk management.
Connie’s bachelor’s degree in business marketing led her into work as a product manager and an account manager in the disability management field, and she then worked as an intensive care nurse. Since becoming a case manager in 1989, she has managed catastrophic workers’ compensation cases, and she enjoys their complexity due to her strong critical care background. Connie became a Certified Case Manager in 1993 and joined SCM in 2008.
Elle has been a practicing nurse for over 30 years, and she joined SCM in 2008. Elle has combined experience in the field of critical care, surgery, and psychiatry and she currently works with catastrophic workers’ compensation and chronic pain cases. She has a keen awareness of the mind-body connection and has studied alternative forms of medicine. In her free time she enjoys meditation and yoga.
Jan’s experience ranges from establishing a pilot program for catastrophic medical and mental health cases through a breadth of clinical specialization, supervision, and client consultation services in plan development, design, and education, as well as in program viability and fiscal impact—to name only a few of her accomplishments. She is a recipient of CCM’s prestigious Patricia McCollum Scholarship Award for commitment to education of the professional case manager. At SCM, Jan is a case manager for catastrophic and chronic pain cases. She says the opportunity to take an active role in assisting a client through an illness or injury is what makes her “tick.”
Kelly has served in consulting, management and educational roles throughout her more than 30 years in the nursing profession. She is a Certified Case Manager with experience in critical care and case management, and she specializes in working with individuals who have sustained catastrophic injuries such as spinal cord and brain injury. Kelly has been with SCM since 2004, and her time away from work is often spent on her bicycle or sailboat.
Margaret retired from the US Air Force with military medical care experience, and she has a history of utilization management, case management, management of an HMO 24-hour nurse advice line, and management of workers’ compensation claims intake with responsibility for case management staff. Margaret has been a Certified Case Manager since 1993 and has enjoyed the rewarding experiences her career in case management has afforded her. Margaret brought her successful history of managing catastrophic injuries to SCM in 2007.
Shirley brings a wealth of experience to her role at SCM. From acute care to administrative and clinical supervision, data analysis, education, audits, and case management—she’s done it all in a long and successful career, and found time along the way to earn a doctorate degree in education. Shirley is now semi-retired and focuses on special projects for SCM, as well as caring for her beloved cats and crocheting beautiful, intricate patterns.
Stephanie joined SCM in 2007, bringing over 30 years of experience in a broad nursing background. She is a Certified Case Manager who works with the developmentally disabled population through the Regional Centers. Complementing her work is Stephanie’s service as a board member of Case Management Society of America and Disaster Service Worker for the city of Laguna Niguel. In her free time she enjoys photography and playing golf with her family.
Gini is a Certified Case Manager and Certified Nurse Life Care Planner with over 40 years experience in Nursing. She joined SCM in 2009. Gini’s clinical background includes: Medical/ Surgical; Critical Care; Emergency Department; OB/Gyn; Psychiatry; and House Supervision. She became a Case Manager in 1983, and developed an interest in catastrophic injuries, which led to certification as a Nurse Life Care Planner in 2005. Gini enjoys spending time with her three grandkids in the beautiful Hawaiian outdoors.
Michelle joined SCM Associates in 2008, where she helps the case management department stay organized and supports the case managers with their various needs. Michelle also coordinates the administrative needs of the local chapter of CMSA and is dedicated to supporting the organization’s efforts. Michelle is currently pursuing her AA degree, specializing in medical records. She is a proud mother of one and loves to spend as much time as she can with her son.
Kim has been in the healthcare service industry for 20 years building a career around credentialing, provider relations, and contracting. She has spent the past 10 years as part of the credentialing department here at SCM Associates. Kim is a member of the California Association of Medical Staff Services (CAMSS), as well as its local Long Beach Chapter. Kim attends the CAMSS annual education forum each year as a participant and exhibitor for SCM, as well as a monthly executive forum management meeting. She is a busy mom with a teenage son and loves to travel.
Gloria has been with SCM Associates, Inc. since 2001 in the area of data entry and credentialing support. She has an AA degree in office systems and brings a wealth of administrative support experience to the company. Her successful career in the business world has been attributed to dedication and working hard for the company. Gloria is a member of the Long Beach Chapter of CAMSS. She is the mother of 5 and a proud grandmother.
Karen is a Southern California native and joined the SCM credentialing team as a customer service representative in 2008. She has a strong background in customer service and displays exemplary performance in accelerating the credentialing process with strong communication skills and follow-through. Karen is a member of the local Long Beach chapter of CAMSS. She enjoys gardening, traveling and shopping.
Waukecha has been a passionate provider of services in the public as well as private industry sectors and she has over ten years of customer service experience. When she is not working, she enjoys spending time with her family doing outdoor and indoor activities such as watching movies, going to the park, and socializing.
Lindsey originally joined SCM Associates in 2009 through a local ROP Program. Since joining the credentialing team full time, Lindsey has expanded her office and communication skills, and she has been a great addition to the team. She is a member of the Long Beach Chapter of CAMSS, and in her free time she enjoys spending time with friends and the outdoors.
Kathy has broad experience over four decades managing business “infrastructure” in both non-profit and for-profit organizations. As SCM’s business manager, she ensures that the company has the people, tools, and services required to serve the needs of our customers. Kathy’s outside interests include training fellow childbirth educators and other birth workers through writing and speaking, serving as a professional doula (or labor assistant), and spending as much time as possible with her grandchildren.
Gina joined SCM early in 2010 with a background in business and computers. As SCM’s project coordinator she ensures that the company is on track to meet the changing technical requirements and needs of the healthcare industry to keep the company in compliance with regulatory agencies. Gina also coordinates office-wide improvement projects and assists the staff in obtaining the tools they need to do their jobs in the most efficient way possible utilizing current technology. In her off time Gina enjoys traveling, hiking, and reading.
