Marlys Severson - RN, BSN, CCM
President/CEO

Marlys has over 25 years of experience in case management and is the founder and president of SCM Associates, Inc. In 1992, she was the first recipient of the Case Management Society of America’s Case Manager of the Year award. She has served CMSA in multiple roles including local and national president. Marlys has provided consulting services to many private and public health insurers. She is a published author and a frequent lecturer who has represented the field of case management on television and in video. Marlys is an active Rotarian, volunteering in the local community.

Case Management

Brandy – BSN, RN, CCM
Case Manager

Brandy has worked as a registered nurse for 30 years. She earned her Bachelor of Science in nursing from William Carey University. Brandy has a clinical background in emergency nursing and med-surg. Brandy is a certified Case Manager. She has been a Case Manager since 2007. Her Case Management experience includes hospital utilization management, discharge planning, worker’s compensation, and outpatient Case Management. Brandy works with injured clients, assisting them in navigating through the healthcare continuum. She collaborates with employers, insurance carriers, healthcare professionals, and co-workers to achieve the best outcomes.

Janis - RN, BSN, CCM
Case Manager

Jan’s experience ranges from establishing a pilot program for catastrophic medical and mental health cases through a breadth of clinical specialization, supervision, and client consultation services in plan development, design, and education, as well as in program viability and fiscal impact—to name only a few of her accomplishments. She is a recipient of CCM’s prestigious Patricia McCollum Scholarship Award for commitment to education of the professional case manager. At SCM, Jan is a case manager for catastrophic and chronic pain cases. She says the opportunity to take an active role in assisting a client through an illness or injury is what makes her “tick.”

Cheryl - RN, BSN, CCM
Case Manager

Cheryl is a certified case manager with over 28 years of nursing experience. She has worked in case management for 13 years. Her case management experience includes working in acute rehabilitation. Her case management focus has been collaborating with insurance carriers, coordinating and facilitating the individual rehabilitation treatment plan to assure appropriate care, functional outcomes and ensure a smooth transition to the next level of care. In her leisure time, she enjoys going to the movies, reading, and watching documentaries.

Nancy - RN, BSN, PHN, CRRN, CCM
Case Manager

Nancy is a California native born in Los Angeles and raised in Seal Beach eventually returning to raise her family. She attended UCSB (BA Physical Education), SDSU (MA Exercise Physiology) and University of Oklahoma (BS Nursing). The majority of her working career has been in healthcare including field sales, marketing, and business development. Her nursing experience includes Medical Surg/Oncology, Telemetry, Pain Management and Acute Rehab. Certified in ONS Chemotherapy Biotherapy, Medical Surgical Nursing and Rehab Nursing. She is married with two children. When not at work she enjoys the outdoors hiking, backpacking, kayaking, sailing, snow skiing and gardening.

Joy - RN, BSN, MBA, PhD, CCM
Case Manager

Joy has been practicing nursing for over 25 years and is currently a Certified Case Manager. Her experience ranges from workers compensation, skilled home care, negative pressure wound therapy, and pediatric intensive care. In addition, Joy has served in the capacity as a home care consultant, administrator, and adjunct professor, at a well-known university, and is a member of the Association for Women in Science. Joy enjoys spending quality time with her children and grandchildren. She has a thirst for knowledge and enjoys science, reading, traveling, and ocean kayaking.

Irving - RN
Case Manager

Irving has been a nurse for 17 years and has always found fulfillment in hands on patient care, in both Hospital and Home Health care settings. Irving believes in the importance of patient education and active participation in self-care. As an avid DIYer, he spends his time reading books, working on various projects, home improvement, and auto repair when not working.

Virginia - RN, CCM, CNLCP
Case Manager

Gini is a Certified Case Manager and Certified Nurse Life Care Planner with over 40 years’ experience in Nursing. She joined SCM in 2009. Gini’s clinical background includes: Medical/ Surgical; Critical Care; Emergency Department; OB/Gyn; Psychiatry; and House Supervision. She became a Case Manager in 1983, and developed an interest in catastrophic injuries, which led to certification as a Nurse Life Care Planner in 2005. Gini enjoys spending time with her three grandkids in the beautiful Hawaiian outdoors.

Patricia - RN
Case Manager

Patricia graduated from the Nursing Program at Chapman University and has worked as a Registered Nurse since 1986. During her career I worked in Ambulatory care for 15 years, and eventually transitioned to be the Director of Nurses and the Director of Ancillary. She has worked in Acute Care Hospitals as a nurse on the Surgical floor, ICU and CCU. She was an admitting nurse in the Newborn Nursery and worked on the Mother\Baby Unit in an Orange County Hospital. She has also worked as a Patient Care Coordinator for a Hospice and a Home Health Care Agency. I was a Utilization Review Nurse for 7 years for a National Health Insurance company. For the past 5 years I have worked as a Nurse Case Manager and I have my CCM. I recently retired from full-time employment but continue to work part-time covering appointments as a Field Case Manager for SCM Associates and Paradigm.

Marivic - RN
Case Manager

Marivic, a combination name of Maria Victoria, has worked in the nursing field for over 28 years. She has an extensive clinical background in medical-surgical, telemetry, progressive care, and internal medicine. This experience made it possible for her to work as a travel nurse and continue to develop her clinical skills. For the last 11 years, Marivic has gained invaluable experience as a case manager where she focused on communicating, coordinating care, and building relationships with her patients, as well as home health, hospice, health plan, specialty care hospital, and telemedicine providers. Her goal is to be a certified case manager and continue to provide cost effective quality care. For work-life balance, she enjoys traveling, outdoor activities, spending time with family, and staying connected with friends.

Georgia - BSN, RN, CCM, RIT
Case Manager

Georgia has been in the nursing profession for over 30 years. She has functioned in many roles that include bedside nursing, educator/trainer and as a supervisor/director. She has been a case manager for a third-party administrator (TPA) for over 11 years and was certified in 2014. In that role she has provided education and support to catastrophic and high-dollar claimants. Georgia assisted clients to navigate the health care system to ensure optimal care while facilitating the most cost-effective options. She prepared detailed reports for the TPA, stop-loss carriers and employer groups. Georgia recently completed a 2-year training and received her RIT (Reinsurance Integration Training) certification given by Interlink. She lived on the Mississippi Gulf Coast for over 20 years and now resides in Louisiana close to family. Her greatest joys are her children, nephews and great nieces and nephew.

Jeanisa - RN, CCM
Recruiting & Training Specialist

Jeanisa is an RN case manager with over 12 years of nursing experience with 10 of those years dedicated to case management. Jeanisa’s clinical background includes acute/critical care, home health, disease management, specialty managed care and workers’ compensation case management. Her focus has been on managing teams, developing creative solutions, training nurses, and providing the best care while minimizing costs. She has successfully worked to improve case manager performance, job knowledge and retention. When she is not working, she enjoys cooking classic Italian recipes, hiking, traveling and gardening.

Evie
Case Management Technical, Training, & Compliance Coordinator

Evie has been with SCM since 2013. As Case Management Technical, Training & Compliance Coordinator, she works with case managers on compliance, ensuring that they are timely in their tasks. She conducts new and ongoing training for employees. She also helps with front-line IT issues to see if problems can be resolved prior to involving the IT Department, helps test IT changes and updates, as well as reviews the case manager’s computers for compliance. She creates and edits the patient reports which are submitted to the carriers. While away from work, Evie loves spending time with her grandkids, hiking and exploring regional parks, as well as traveling.

Robyn
Case Management Administrative Assistant

Robyn joined SCM in 2013 as an assistant to both Janis and Kelly. She has been focusing on supporting nurse case managers streamline all aspects of each case by: coordinating appointments and travel, inputting critical notes, completing authorizations, and contacting providers as needed. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends.

Anayanett
Case Management Administrative Assistant

Anayanett is a mother of five amazing children. She has a degree in business office administrative assistant from United Education Institute in Los Angeles, a bachelor’s in international business from American Intercontinental University in Culver City, CA, as well as a second bachelor’s in social and criminal justice from Ashford University in San Diego, CA. In her spare time, she loves spending time in the water at the beach. She also enjoys reading books.

Vanessa
Quality Assurance Administrative Assistant

Vanessa has been working in the healthcare industry for over 15 years. She is very analytical and detail-oriented and can find that needle in the haystack. Quality assurance is one of her strengths and she always values quality over quantity. She enjoys helping patients with their care. She has her Bachelor of Science in Public Administration with concentration in criminal justice and minor in sociology. She is a proud mother of four children and enjoys spending quality time with her family. She also loves music and coffee!

Marisa
Case Management Administrative Assistant

Marisa joined SCM in 2021 as an administrative assistant. After studying in Portland and Irvine, Marisa earned her bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in healthcare management. Much of Marisa’s working career has been in field sales and consulting. Marisa’s core values are integrity, quality of service, and dedication when it comes to her work. As a former athlete, Marisa’s main hobbies include attending sporting events, enjoying the beach with family, and volunteering at the American Heart Association’s annual heart walk event.

Sarah
Case Management & Quality Assurance Assistant

Sarah began working in the healthcare industry in 2020 when she started working with a company assisting consumers with their healthcare needs. She has an extensive background in customer service, managerial experience, and Quality Assurance. She is looking forward to using her skills at SCM. Sarah is a mother of three beautiful children. When she’s away from work, she spends a lot of time traveling for her children’s sporting events, traveling for pleasure, listening to her audiobooks, and drinking coffee.

BUSINESS OPERATIONS

Phil
Director of Operations

Phil joined the SCM Management team in 2017 as Director of Operations. He has previously been in business operations for over 18 years for world-class companies like Target, Starbucks, and most recently FedEx. Phil obtained his Bachelors of Science degree from Cal State Fullerton in 2008.Throughout his experience, he has focused on developing teams, being a leader, coach, and a mentor. He enjoys working to improve business performance, quality, and efficiency. When not at work, Phil spends his time with his wife and kids.

Nick
Manager of IT & Projects

Nick joined SCM Associates in early 2015 initially as the Business Ops Coordinator but eventually settling into the role as Manager of IT & Projects. Since receiving his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, he has worked on a broad scope of business and IT projects influencing infrastructure and operational efficiency for various companies. His current role aids and supports the growth of SCM Associates through various projects ranging from database tools, security, and general desktop support. In his spare time Nick enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, and staying active.

Linda
Business Operations Administrative Assistant

Linda joined SCM in 2012. Primarily, Linda functions as the office administrative assistant and bookkeeper, although her versatility encompasses a greater range of administrative work. She is particularly appreciated as a gifted staff party planner. In her spare time Linda enjoys spending time with her family, cooking a great meal, or enjoying a book. She will tell you she loves to work, but we know she also secretly looks forward to her yearly family trip to Hawaii.
